Marintec China 2025, a premier maritime event, ran from Dec 2 to 5 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in Pudong New Area, spotlighting the industry's shift toward future energy solutions and eco-smart shipbuilding.

Spanning over 110,000 square meters, the event featured 11 exhibition areas and drew more than 2,200 exhibitors representing over 40 countries and regions, with foreign exhibitors accounting for 43 percent of participants.

One of the key highlights this year was the debut of the Energytec future energy exhibition area, underscoring the maritime sector's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

The exhibition area hosted forums and seminars focused on alternative energy solutions and supply chain sustainability, reflecting the event's theme "Innovation and Collaboration for Maritime Sustainability".

Norway, this year's Marintec Country of Honor, sent a high-level delegation to Shanghai, led by representatives from its Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries.

In addition to Norway's pavilion, multinational corporations including German technology conglomerate Siemens AG and US power technology leader Cummins Inc were present in the international halls (N1-N4).

The domestic halls (W1-W7) showcased leading Chinese companies such as China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited and China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited.

The event also featured a cruise interior decorations exhibition area, further emphasizing the industry's green and intelligent transition.

Running concurrently with the exhibition, the Senior Maritime Forum facilitated strategic discussions under the theme "Smart Navigation, Green Symbiosis, Convergent Innovation".

The forum included five specialized sessions covering keynote addresses, shipbuilding and ocean engineering, shipping and ports, marine finance and law, and marine equipment and technology.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China led the global shipbuilding market in the first three quarters of 2025, capturing 53.8 percent, 67.3 percent, and 65.2 percent of the market share across three key deadweight tonnage indicators, providing significant momentum to the world's shipbuilding sector.
